Newbie to VPS. Looking for UK VPS 2GB/4GB, 2 Core, 20GB+ SSD Windows

$

Hi, I am new to VPS but I want to try one to use some software that needs to run 24/7. I need it to be UK based which costs a bit more than US from what I see. I need at least 2GB RAM but prefer 4GB is not much more 2 Core CPU - dedicated if possible? Maybe able to use 1. At least 20GB ssd space.

The bit that is confusing me is the Windows Linux OS. I don't know anything about Linux and I don't know what all the debian, centos stuff is. When I looked at a few, during the order process, the os is debian, centos and other ones that I assume are all Linux. Where does the Windows come into it? I guess I want Windows server 2016.

Also, is does KVM refer to Windows VPS?

Sorry, I am a newbie here and this is my first venture into VPS.

Some Reviews & Benchmarks of various providers

$

So recently I've been looking at servers, and I've run various benchmarks for various providers. They were previously in another thread, but thought I'd compile them all for ease of use. My main catagory when I was looking was it needed to support 4GB of RAM, docker (so limited to KVM), and be as cheap as I could find, whilst still being reliable.

So on to the results. I've minified them as best I can to make them more easily comparable, and put links to the products for purchase. I'm not affiliated with any of these companies.

Note that the stress NG scores, higher is better. Speed test results are done over 3 runs, and the unusual hard drive figure shown on vapornode is probably due to lots of mounted volumes and docker. All services have proven to be very good, although vapornode (the one I want to use is having some packet loss issues at the moment, and its screwing up the network. I am working with support to get them resolved however).

Your host not on this list and you want it to be? Drop me a message and I'll see what I can do! Bonus points if you can get me access to a server to run similar tests.

Hey Guys, Once again I am looking for a VPS. This time in/near Chicago. I basically need a alternative for Vultr as I have problems with their site.

Dedicated required in the EU

Besides the obvious Hetzner in Germany.

Need a dedicated server in the EU (closer to the UK is better)

E3 or i7 (need circa 10k benchmark, little less will do) 16/32 GB RAM SSD Storage 2.5+ TB incoming Bandwidth. Not much outgoing.

Must be a reliable provider.

I didn't spot any crazy Easter deals anticipation thread yet so just wondering, did I miss anything? LET seems to be a bit tame lately.

I'm sure I can be tempted to buy another server I don't need this weekend so looking forward for deals by our top providers. While we're at it, anything good planned in real life this Easter?

CentrioHost - Yet another thread need not to be read but hopefully will save a headache.

Before I start this review I will answer questions before they're asked. It's CentrioHost are you surprised? No What did you expect to get with a $5 Wildcard SSL? Not a lot but it did work until I needed it to be reissued. So you are out $5 why does it matter? Shady business should always be avoided and if I can add one more negative experience to CentrioHost and maybe prevent someone else this headache it's a win.

Alright so for black friday I purchased 3x Wildcard SSL's from CentrioHost. I didn't read the reputation before buying and maybe I should have. After purchasing I had all 3 SSL's up and running within 3 days, so far so good.

Then I moved servers and lost the private key in the process. I figured oh simple the domain is the same and I can reissue it. Not so fast. CentrioHost stated because it was a promotional SSL I could not reissue. That's the first I've ever heard of that and so I asked AlphaSSL if this was the case. They responded they couldn't comment on how resellers handle reissues. Fair enough.

I did some research on CentrioHosts website and came across no mention of this in TOS, Order History, or Order Form of not being able to reissue SSL certificates. In fact I found just the opposite. On the order form for the same SSL I purchased with the same promo code I used it said the reissue fee was free? Huh because that's not what customer service is telling me. So after running around multiple times they have just offered me to buy another SSL at $5.

I guess this is what to expect from a host that likes to offer free warez! I have image links to their TOS, Order Forms, etc because they like to change things on the fly.

Anyway I opened a dispute and will be sure to leave this on every review site I can because again no business should handle themselves the way CentrioHost does.

Reliable Low-Cost/Free Email Hosting Service?

$
0
0

Been running a couple Cpanel VPS for a few years. 90% of the accounts are hosting their email elsewhere like Google/Gsuite is most common. This is great as email is the most mission critical to most businesses and it's a lot easier for me, or them, to migrate their web server around to different hosts without dealing with email migration.

Now the only domain left on the server is my own email domain. LOL. And I can see myself getting out of the IT Consulting/Hosting business soon but I'm a TOTAL cheapskate. But I want something reliable. I use Outlook desktop or Android app to get my email. I have only have a half dozen other family members on the domain and they use web interface or phone app to access email. So I've kind of narrowed it down to:

1) Zoho Email - seems like a good value $2/month (annual) includes nice interface and features and web productivity apps for those that want them

2) Gsuite - $5/month but we really wouldn't use the apps so kind of waste of money when you only need 6 email accounts

3) Exchange Online Plan 1 - Found a way to get it as low as $3.75. Could be upgraded to Office365 Business Essentials later if desired.

4) Tiliq - new kid on the block, charges by the GB and I'm currently only using less than 4GB per user account so it's dirt cheap but looks like no support as it failed to send SMS verify message, no chat, not even a knowledgebase yet. GitHub project turned into a service looks like.

Isn't there a domain registrar somewhere that give a few free hosted email accounts? GoDaddy used to do it but no longer. I'm on Ramnode for VPS.

Will enabling swap eat up IOPS quota?

Will enabling swap eat up the IOPS quota?

RAM is 2 GB. If I enable swap, about 0.5 gb gets moved to the disk. But it seems to be affecting the overall performance, load times (unless it's something else I've missed).

As far as I know, the machine allows only 100 IOPS (restricted).

I am trying to extract some content from an apk. Looks like the app dev is using cordova/ ionic. When I extracted the APK, I see the following folder Structure:

www/ www/assets (all photos) www/build (all js) www/cordova-js-src www/cordova.js www/cordova_plugins.js www/index.html www/manifest.json www/plugins www/service-worker.js

Is there any way I can see the content from the above structure in a computer browser? Currently, when I double click on the "index.html" file it is not optning up. I get lots of popups.

Any help is appreciated.

About HostHatch...

Having read many positive comments about HostHatch I've ordered and paid for an NVMe VPS (Amsterdam location). Three hours later VPS had not yet been activated. I asked them about it and the answer to my ticket follows:

We are in the midst of adding a new node in our Amsterdam location to address the overwhelming orders we have received lately. Your server will be provisioned as soon as the node set up has been completed.

Twelve hours later I've lost my patience and mailed them to give me an ETA, otherwise I had to ask for a refund.

48h passed, nobody answered to my last question and of course VPS is still not activated.

What kind of joke is that? How can they sell something they're not able to deliver?

You tell me then to prefer small businesses...

Anybody has any experience from HostHatch?
