I have owned a .ca domain the last three years, using it only for my personal e-mails. It's registered at Godaddy.com.
Some days ago I did get this e-mail, and it do not seem like a good thing for me, since I do not live in Canada, I have no relation at all to Canada, not owning any companies, nor are I'm Her Majesty the Queen or anything with Canada.
Dear Kenneth,
The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has initiated a process to verify
information for the Registrant Kenneth Myhre associated with but not limited to, the domain
name myhre.ca with the following Registrant Contact ID: xxxxxxxx.
We are requesting that you please provide the following information to compliance@cira.ca
by January 30th, 2014.
1. Documentation which confirms Kenneth xxxxx is the full legal name of the Registrant.
2. Documentation which demonstrates that Kenneth xxxxx meets CIRA’s Canadian
Presence Requirements for Registrants as outlined at [http://www.cira.ca/assets/Documents
/Legal/Registrants/CPR.pdf](http://www.cira.ca/assets/Documents/Legal/Registrants
/CPR.pdf).
3. Confirmation that Kenneth xxxxx is the full legal name of the Administrative Contact
and all Administrative Contact information is full and complete.
It’s important to note that if the requested documentation is not received by January 30th,
2014 your .CA domain name registration(s) will be suspended, meaning any email addresses
or websites associated with the domain name(s) will no longer function. Deletion of your .CA
domain name registration(s) will follow the suspension, unless this process is successfully
completed.
Please note that during the process to verify this information all .CA domain name(s)
associated with Registrant Contact ID xxxxxxxx will be restricted. You will not be able to
make any updates to the domain name, or transfer Registrars until this process has
successfully completed.
One of CIRA's mandates is to ensure that .CA domain names are reserved for individuals and
companies with a Canadian connection. We regularly undertake a review of domain name
registrations to ensure that: (1) those who have registered a .CA are entitled to do so and can
demonstrate their connection with Canada, and if so, (2) that those Registrants have
registered under the appropriate category.
Any questions about this process should be directed to your Registrar, who manages your
domain name information. Your Registrar is: Go Daddy Domains Canada, Inc
You can also contact compliance@cira.ca with any questions you may have.
Below you will find some additional information which will help guide you through this
process.
To assist you with ensuring that the proper documentation is being submitted, CIRA
provides a list of documents that it will accept to validate certain frequently used Canadian
Presence categories: [http://www.cira.ca/cpr/en/intro.html](http://www.cira.ca/cpr/en
/intro.html).
For the CPR category Canadian Corporation, examples of appropriate documents include a
Certificate of Status and a Corporate Profile Report. Please note that articles of incorporation
are not considered appropriate documents for these purposes.
For the CPR category Canadian Citizen, examples of appropriate documents include a
Canadian Birth Certificate or a valid Canadian Passport. Please note that you do not need to show CIRA your birth date.
Kind regards,
Serina El Salibi
